Bio
Who am I?
My name is Michelle. I’m just a girl in my late 20s whose interests tend to intersect those of crazed 15 year old boys destined for lives in their mother’s basements rather than the interests of my more mainstream female peers. I’m far more likely to spend my money on comic books, DVDs and games than I am on clothes, handbags and makeup. I am positive that my dear friends and family would nominate me in a heartbeat for an episode of TLC’s “What Not to Wear” if given the chance.
I have been married twice over to my soul mate. Our first civil ceremony was in July 2005 and we renewed our vows in a Roman Catholic ceremony in December 2006. (It’s a testament to how much he puts up with me loves me that he agreed to the Catholic ceremony despite the fact that he’s the most agnostic person ever to exist and has been known to call Jesus “JC” on occasion.) The plus side to a guy geek marrying a girl geek is that my husband never has to make excuses for buying video games and electronics.
We are the proud new parents to a beautiful little girl named Seraphine. She was born on 19 March 2008 after nearly a day and a half of labor. She’s a beautiful and headstrong little girl. While I wouldn’t call us a totally granola family, we breastfeed, co-sleep and babywear. I plan on breastfeeding until she’s at least a year old and from there, will allow her to determine when to wean.
Also part of our family is our dog Miyuki. She’s a Border Collie/Labrador/sighthound mix of some sort that we I adopted in May 2006 when she was about 6 months old. According to my husband, Miyuki owns me and not the other way around. I am ashamed to admit that this is usually true. She’s a total house dog and hates being left alone outside.
I love to cook and eat. I dream of having a big house with a huge kitchen to entertain in. The greatest gift I ever bought for myself was a KitchenAid stand mixer which I love to absolute bits. I found it at Target for $99 and it has been an absolute dream come true. My next kitchen gadget purchase will probably be a food processor. I spend way too much time watching food related television programs. Yes, I am addicted to Food Network. I also enjoy watching Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations, Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, Hell’s Kitchen (US) and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares (UK).
I love animated shows. I used to watch a lot of anime but I’m pretty out of touch with the anime scene these days. As for American animation, I love the DC Animated Universe. They get the DCU right where the DC comics screw up. I’ve been known to watch a lot of Asian dramas — Japanese and some Korean. I also enjoy documentaries far more than any normal person should as well as things like Mythbusters. I’m also a sucker for well written comedies - 30 Rock is great example. I’ve found myself watching a lot of Law & Order recently, too.
I think that this is a sign that I need to cancel cable already.
I write a lot but don’t read nearly as much as I should. I take photos with my beloved Digital Rebel XTi. I bought some camera equipment with my government bribe stimulus money but I haven’t yet found the opportunity to test it out!
